A Liberal Democrat County Councillor has attacked the Conservative-run Council for its spending on consultants.
North Yorkshire County Council spent over £22,000 on consultants between 2004 and 2007 according to figures obtained by Lib Dem Councillor John Marshall. This was spent on the Council's failed bid to become a unitary authority and to help develop a waste strategy.
At today's meeting of the Council, Cllr Marshall, who represents Harrogate Central, asked the Tory Leader of the Council for an assurance that this would not happen again.
The Leader of the Council denied that any money had been spent on developing the waste strategy. Cllr Marshall said:
"The Leader's reply, acknowledging part of the press story, confirms that this was a complete waste of money, as the bid for unitary status failed."
"I am disappointed not to have received an assurance that this sort of waste will not occur again."
