Cllr Brian O Flynn
Local Liberal Democrats are mourning the sad death of their Borough Council Group Leader, Cllr Brian O'Flynn. Brian, 77, who died of a stroke earlier this week, was a much respected and much loved councillor for Eastfield.
Tributes have been pouring in from Eastfield residents who remember him as a friendly, approachable and hard-working Councillor. He can be remembered fondly riding his bike through the estate and ringing an old school bell to let residents know that he was in the neighbourhood and available to hear any problems or concerns.
Fellow Eastfield Councillors Geoffrey Evans and Brian Simpson have also paid their respects for Brian. "I will miss him terribly. He was such a wise man and he was a great mentor to me in my early days as a Liberal Democrat Councillor" said Brian Simpson. Geoffrey Evans commented on his passion for helping people: "Brian was an exemplary councillor. He worked tirelessly for the people of Eastfield. We shall miss him but we will do everything we can to carry on his good work".
Tania Exley-Moore, who stood as the Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate at the last 2 General Elections said of Brian "He was such a dear friend as well as being a close colleague. He was a great support to me and I often turned to him for advice. He had great knowledge and wisdom and was such a principled man. He also had a wicked sense of humour and was a welcome addition to our Liberal Democrat functions."
Brian, a devoted family man, will be enormously missed by his children and grandchildren. He was a very energetic man, even into his seventies. He played a full and active part in all of the Liberal Democrat campaigns, even in the recent General Election and at Christmas he even went on a family skiing holiday.
Brian's funeral is to be held at St Peter's Church on Thursday 15th July at 9.30am.
