Whitby Liberal Democrats have selected their candidate to fight the borough council by-election in Mayfield Ward. They have selected 67 year old ex-teacher Chris Cawood. Chris was born in the West Riding where he worked as a teacher for 27 years. He moved to Whitby and ran the Lealholm Village Shop for 14 years but is now retired.
Chris is a longstanding member of the Liberal Democrats and has had a deep interest in politics for many years. He was saddened to hear of the death of Peter Booth, the councillor who represented Mayfield Ward for many years but felt that it was important for democracy that voters could make a choice from each of the main parties.
He is glad to be given an opportunity to spread news of the good work the Liberal Democrats are doing on the Borough and County Council and at Westminster and Europe. He feels strongly that no one group should control Scarborough Borough Council and believes that greater efficiency and greater accountability can be achieved when the parties work together.
Polling day for the Mayfield By-Election will be on Thursday 11th February. If you would like to help in any way or if you would like to be put in touch with the candidate then please email Tania on exley-moore@lineone.net
