Liberal Democrats at North Yorkshire County Council are delighted that families will not be paying any more for school meals this year.
The Conservative-run Council has put up the costs of meals in primary schools by more than inflation for the last two years. The current cost is £2 per meal.
Lib Dems opposed these rises but the Tory majority pushed them through.
Happily, the Conservatives now appear to have taken Lib Dem advice, and are not going to put up prices again this year.
Cllr Caroline Seymour, Lib Dem Spokesperson on Young People, said:
"I am pleased that families with young children are not going to be hit with another price hike from the council."
"With the recession it is more important than ever that the council does its bit to ease the burden on taxpayers."
"The Liberal Democrats have opposed big rises in recent years. I am glad to see that common sense is now prevailing."
