The Liberal Democrats have had a major breakthrough in this week's elections in Scarborough and Whitby polling higher than Labour in both the County elections and the European elections. Local activists celebrated last night as they saw yet more evidence that the Lib Dems are the second biggest party in the constituency.
Parliamentary Candidate, Tania Exley-Moore said " we doubled our share of the vote at Labour's expense in the 2005 General Election and since then we have polled higher than them across the constituency in 3 elections, the Borough elections, the County and now the European. Clearly Labour are a spent force here and we are now the second party. We are hot on the heels of the Conservatives and will be challenging them in the forthcoming General Election."
