Yorkshire Liberal Democrats are celebrating a stunning victory after taking the Heworth Without ward from the Conservatives .
Lib Dem Nigel Ayre won at a canter with 914 votes pushing the Tories into second and Labour into third place. Scarborough and Whitby candidate Tania Exley-Moore said that the result was 'Proof that Yorkshire voters are fed up with Labour nationally and the Tories locally'.
'The result shows that York voters are happy with the Lib Dem council's policies, and that Yorkshire voters are looking at the Liberal Democrats in a new light.'
'Maybe Yorkshire's coming home to the Liberal Democrats. We don't like having people shove their nose into our business and we don't like being told what to do: freedom from state snooping and personal freedom are core liberal values.'
'Congratulations to Cllr Ayre and here's to more Liberal Democrat councillors and MPs in the county of Yorkshire.'
