Lib Dem activists from Scarborough and Whitby have been working hard in both Sedgefield and Ealing in the run-up to yesterday's important by-elections. Lib Dems from across the country worked to help the party achieve swings from both the Labour and Conservative Parties in both these by-elections. Whilst Gordon Brown managed to hang on to these Labour safe seats, his party's majority was slashed.
David Cameron's Tory Party were humiliated in both elections, coming third behind the Liberal Democrats in both seats.
Ming Campbell, Leader of the Liberal Democrats said "Three party politics is clearly here to stay. Liberal Democrats showed that we are the challengers to Labour in what used to be Labour's strongholds . We are the only party capable of representing every community in every part of Britain".
