Councillor Rob Broadley
Conservative and Labour councillors at County Hall have joined forces to block Liberal Democrat attempts to improve consultation on bus timetables in North Yorkshire.
At last week's meeting of the County Council's Executive, Whitby Councillor Rob Broadly urged members to support the Lib Dem motion aimed at improving consultation on changes in public transport provision.
This followed a large number of complaints from local residents that bus operators were changing times of services with no consultation and with little notice.
But the Tory-dominated Executive voted to reject efforts to involve parish councils and the public prior to timetable changes.
At an earlier meeting of the Transport & Telecommunications Overview & Scrutiny Committee, Labour voted with the Tories to scupper Lib Dem attempts to improve bus services for local people.
Cllr Broadley said:
"In a recent report the Transport & Telecommunications Committee has said that there is a problem, yet now the Council is not prepared to do anything about it."
"The Tories, with Labour support, are letting down the travelling public. This will lead to more confusion and complaints when further timetable changes are imposed. It will also lead to a poorer service for our residents."
