Lib Dems campaigning in Whitby - no sign of Labour!
A report in The Independent this week showed Labour at a record low in the polls. Just over a week before the local elections and the party has slid to 27 points in the polls, just 5 points ahead of the Liberal Democrats who have been making steady increases in recent months.
The newspaper cites Iraq, the unpopularity of both Blair and Brown and the ongoing 'cash for honours' crisis as reasons for the public losing faith in Labour. In Scarborough and Whitby the news is much the same. Labour struggled to find candidates to stand in the Local Elections on May 3rd. They have only 11 candidates in the election and were unable to find anyone to stand in any of the Whitby wards.
Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Scarborough and Whitby, Tania Exley-Moore said "Clearly the Labour party are on the way out in the Borough. On the doorstep our activists are witnessing a huge shift of support from Labour to the Lib Dems. Membership to the Lib Dems is increasing locally month on month and we have a record number of activists helping us fight the elections this May."
