Lib Dems substantially increased their share of the vote in yesterday's Local Elections. What turned out to be a good night for the Tories and a devastating night for Labour revealed a consolidation of the Lib Dem position in Local Government and showed the country that 3 party politics is here to stay. The Liberal Democrats took a bigger share of the vote than the Labour party, a resounding message that the next General Election is more likely than ever to result in a hung parliament.
The Liberal Democrats net gains were 13 by Friday lunchtime, with 5 councils still to be declared. More importantly though, the party took control of its 13th local council.
