On the bitterly cold evening of 12 March when sympathy was felt for the Doorman standing outside, things were really hot down in the VIVAZ club on Huntriss Row between 7 - 12.30.
Over 200 hundred like-minded people between the ages of 16 to over 60 years enjoyed a performance by 10 local bands, giving their time freely to 'Love Music, Hate Racism', to demonstrate their opposition to the BNP.
With an entry fee of £3 per head many refused their change when paying in notes. There was also a lucrative sale of anti-fascist T shirts and lapel badges.
The editor of the Scarborough Evening News, applying unjustified censorship several months ago, decreed there would be no reporting of BNP activity by the newspaper, however, articles advertising the above event did list its purpose and a journalist was in attendance at the event in order to write a review.
It is indeed heartening to witness so many young people enjoying themselves while at the same time making a very strong statement against one of the most insidious elements of our society.
