Our Regional Spring Conference will be held at County Hall in Northallerton this Saturday and promises to be an energetic affair. Members have been re-invigorated by the recent Lib Dem victory by Willie Rennie in Dunfermline. We all needed to be reminded just how little the public trusts the 'flip-flopping' Tories and how we are recognised as being the only antidote to years of blairite authoritarianism and spin.
The leadership contest is hotting up and the candidates are getting some excellent coverage in the media. What began as a debacle now looks to be the opportunity we had hoped for to showcase our talent and our policies. There will be a chance at the conference to hear from representatives of the three candidates, though I suspect many of us have cast our vote already!
A number of high profile speakers will be addressing conference, MPs Greg Mullholland, Nick Clegg and Phil Willis and MEP Diana Wallis to name but a few. There will also be motions on 14-18 Education and the Tomlinson Report and on Electoral Reform.
For local members wishing to go, there are still 2 places left in Tania's car (tel: 01723 865312) but for those of you who can't make it, a full report will be posted on the website next week.
