Scarborough and Whitby Liberal Democrats are supporting the Climate Change Action Day with a stall in Scarborough Town Centre on Saturday 3 December. The Climate Change Action Day has been called to lobby world leaders who are meeting in Montreal to consider next steps following the expiry of the Kyoto Agreement on CO2 emissions.
Local Lib Dems will be handing out information on the effects of climate change, and providing information on how people can minimise their environmental impact, reduce carbon dioxide emissions and improve energy efficiency.
Tania Exley-Moore, Lib Dem parliamentary spokesperson said: 'All over the world people are marching and demonstrating to put pressure on their governments to take the bold measures needed to reduce greenhouse gas emission and reverse climate change.
'Local Lib Dems are marking Climate Change Action Day by consulting with the public about what measures they think government should adopt to confront the growing climate change crisis. We'll also be providing information about websites and organisations that can help with energy saving measures, because reducing carbon emissions is as much our responsibility as anyone else's.'
'But that doesn't absolve the Labour Government from its failure to confront the problem: they've had two parliamentary terms with huge majorities and they've failed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, cut traffic pollution or invest in renewable energy.'
'So we're marking Climate Change Day by consulting with the public, providing practical information about how we can each cut our energy use today and pointing out that this Prime Minister, for all his green talks has so far failed to get to take practical political action on climate change.'
